- Chain Pitch Pitch is defined as the half distance of any three consecutive rivets. There are five common pitch size: 1/4”, 3/8”, 3/8”Low Profile(LP),.325”, .404”. To find the chain pitch, you can measure the distance between any three rivets and divide it by two. Note: 3/8” has the same rivet measurement as 3/8”LP but features larger cutting tooth and deeper drive link.
- Drive Link Gauge The Gauge size is the thickness of the drive link. It’s the width of the groove in the bar. There are four gauge sizes, which are .043", .050", .058", .063". Using the correct gauge is crucial to prevent the chain from leaning and reduce the risk of it jumping off the guide bar.
- Drive Links The number of drive links and the pitch of the chainsaw chain determined the length of the chainsaw chain. And this usually can be found stamped to the side of the bar. If there is no information on the bar, then you may need to count manually. Make sure your chain is not cut short.
